Elderly Assistance Program

The Benson Police Department and its members have a great deal of respect and admiration for our community’s elderly population. Because of that respect, we have an Elderly Assistance Program. The program has three objectives; to reduce crime against Seniors Citizens, to reduce unwarranted fear of crime that the elderly often experience and to keep lines of communication open between the senior community and law enforcement.

The Benson Police Department works cooperatively with Senior Citizen Housing Facilities in the community to deliver crime prevention information to the elderly population. Officers conduct monthly meetings; some months the officers present a specific program and some months they just attend the meeting and enjoy a cookie and a cup of coffee.
