Mayor and Council
The City of Benson form of government is the "Council-Manager Plan". The Council is the legislative power of the City and determines all matters of policy. The City Manager is the head of the administrative branch of City government and is responsible for all affairs relating to the City.
The Benson City Council is composed of a Mayor and four Council Members who are elected at large. The Mayor is elected every two years and Council Members serve four year terms which are staggered with two being elected every two years. Municipal elections are held on odd numbered years.
The regular meetings of the City Council are held at 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 1410 Kansas Avenue. These meetings are open to the public. Residents are encouraged to attend or watch a rebroadcast of the meetings on Channel 180 the following Tuesday at 7 p.m. or Saturday at 9 a.m.
