Lead Service Line Survey

In December of 2021, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that the current Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR), a plan which aims to reduce exposure to lead and copper in drinking water, will go into effect. The EPA has guided the Minnesota Department of Health to establish a current inventory of lead pipes and connections in order to protect communities from the danger of lead. As stated in the LCRR, lead replacements will be funded at the federal level to cities through Minnesota’s Drinking Water Revolving Fund.

A service line is the water pipe that connects your home to the public water main. The service line conveys water from the main to the faucets, toilets, and other fixtures within your house and can typically be seen where it enters your home in the basement.

As such, the City of Benson is required to create an inventory of our water main and water service line materials.
